So much so, in fact, that I bought a bumblebee costume, don’t know if it would go down well in the Rose mind…
The Rose gives me an opportunity to experience a world where women can meet men who aren’t just wanting to get into their avatar’s panties, a world where people have manners and men open doors for their ladies and everyone gets treated with a little bit of what the RL is lacking sometimes… respect.
It is funny how many like minded people you can find on SL, and how diverse the SL universe is. As Scia pointed out, it is a place where housebound people in RL can walk, run, fly, and disappear into a world where anything is possible… indeed, this isn’t specific to housebound people, I myself am not housebound although I could be with my addiction to SL on my days off!
In regards to relationships… I have had a bit of a rethink. I am not retracting my earlier post, just expanding on it a little. So it may just sound like I’m a sad old single SL spinster, going on about SL relationships so much, but to be perfectly frank about it it’s purely fascination and not want for myself. As much as it would be nice to find someone who you have a connection with, I have great connections with all my SL friends, something I cherish more than finding that “perfect SL partner”. Working in the Rose, I have the opportunity to meet many different people, from barely clad women from the women’s only love island to mini avatars and neko’s… all of which have RP a little when they come to the Purple Rose, and talked to me with the utmost respect and there have been some fairly interesting chats… now it’s not all rosy, as with anywhere in SL there are griefers but that is another topic (although banning that bloke with a rather strangely coloured, *coughs* attachment in the Rose was rather good).
Role-playing is quite a big part of my SL life. My Dublin hostess personality is quite different to the one I portray to guests at the Rose, however, when they get to know me, as a friend once said recently, my humour is quite dry and more of my personality starts to shine through. Even to the way the notices for the events are worded… I can’t imagine starting a Purple Rose notice with the words “Oi you birds and blokes”…
We visited a Western Sim circa 1876 yesterday, purely from curiosity on my part and also, I love the vintage Sims. It was one of the first places I was faced with an extreme sort of role play. My companion was unfortunate enough to grab a teleport that took him to the Downtown area of the Sim, unfortunately a member only area and was consequently confronted by the Sheriff… I was slightly disappointed as I would have loved to have seen the downtown area myself and was not offered the group invite to see it until the sheriff was pressed about it.. Which we then declined and went exploring further. I can understand that the RP is a huge part of the Sim, but I was appropriately dressed and just wanted to have a nosy! These Sims, however serious they take the RP, I am very intrigued by and may consider finding a Victorian or Edwardian Sim similar and see if I can become part of that community (yes I know, I really don’t need another purpose in my very busy SL life but it could be fun!)
There is one thing I have noticed about the Dublin Sims, I have been asked by a lot of guests to Dublin if I am Irish, as I am from Northern Ireland I say yes, but once they hear I am from the north I have suffered a barrage of “you’re not Irish at all” IM’s from the guests in question. To be honest, I never try to get into a political Irish debate, there is far too much of that in RL in this country without taking it into SL, but it does slightly annoy me as Northern Irish people are Irish and part of the UK (N.I is not part of Great Britain, even on the passport it says Great Britain and Northern Ireland). As an Irish passport holder too, I have dual nationality, in that I am an Irish and a UK citizen, therefore, once someone asks if I am Irish i can reply affirmatively, even if it is a northern city i live in. Gaaah!
The SL World has gone mad! No wait.. is mad…
‘Til next time I rant on
Lady Kezzy xx
Are you just noticing that now, child (grin)?
More seriously, it looks like you’re finding some good niches for yourself, and having a ball most of the time. Keep it up!
It’s interesting, the narrowness of some people’s views of Irishness – my folks are almost all from Co Mayo or Co Wicklow depending on which side of the family you’re talking about, & although I am automatically considered an Irish citizen by virtue of my parentage, and I have the right to apply for an Irish passport because of this, when I say I was born in Birmingham, I’m somehow not Irish. Now if a chap whose mum & dad are from the Punjab but who himself was born in Birmingham was to say he was Punjabi, everyone would accept that. Strange. I for one have nothing against people from the North, although I’ve never been there & have been to the South many, many times. I love the Northern Irish accents
